VOLUNTEER POSITIONS At the present time Arriba.Ya is looking for enthusiastic and dedicated
volunteers to join our team of international and Peruvian volunteers.
We will consider students and professionals who have a real interest in
helping poor children and their families. CHILDREN'S CENTER DIRECTORS: At present we have three children's centres in Peru, and are in the process of opening two more in the next months. These are located in different cities throughout Peru (for an example of one of these see: http://www.volunteerhuaraz.com ). So far our directors have come to teach or serve as general volunteers, and after a short time with us we recognize their dedication and skills and promote them to project director; putting them in charge of one of our centres. In general this has worked exceptionally well. The more experience in volunteering, children's work or executive level service in an NGO will of course be invaluable to the challenges you will face in this position DIRECTOR OF A SHELTER FOR PREGNANT ABANDONED ADOLESCENTS: This position will be open as and when we complete construction of the Delicias Beach Shelter ( http://www.chukachuka.com ); and will require experience in directing a project dedicated to shelter and inspire traumatized teean age girls. A long term commitment is required for this position.. TEACHERS: The Peruvian education system is severely underfunded meaning that teachers are poorly paid and under trained. This means that teaching dosen’t attract the quality of employees that it deserves and that those it does are undermotivated. Another serious problem is that class sizes are too large with number of students reaching and sometimes passing the 50 mark. This is anti-pedagogic and Arriba.Ya would like to ease this very serious problem by providing as many schools as possible with international volunteers who can act as teachers and teachers assistants in the schools with which we are working. This is a really important position as the quality of teaching effects the success of the students, and will be the end point of a project which is working to get them into school. Some of the volunteer’s time may involve classes with the under-trained teachers thus guarantying a higher level of education for years after the volunteer has returned home. The volunteers will be working as an integral part of the teaching team and will be asked to teach and help with classes for children ranging in age from 5-16, and possibly to train some of the teachers. Spanish would be really useful for this position but not essential. You could still make a big difference to the lives of the children without speaking their language. Some teaching experience would also be useful but again not essential. All volunteers will receive some orientation upon arrival and will be supported throughout their stay. If interested in this position please complete the ONLINE APPLICATION FORM. SOCIAL WORKER: Arriba.ya needs a huge number of motivated, well organized social workers to visit and work with families to overcome any problems which they may have and to ensure the children’s attendance and success in school. This is hugely important work as Arriba.ya is a fully integrated project where all aspects of a family’s circumstances are considered as having an impact on the potential of a child to successfully study. The majority of our social worker’s will be drawn from the local community but we also have positions for international volunteers. Responsibilities would include:
Spanish will probably be essential for this position although it may be possible to find a position for an enthusiastic applicant. If interested in applying please fill in the ONLINE APPLICATION FORM. FUND RAISER Arriba.Ya needs fundraisers to support our activities so that we can help as many children and families as possible. The candidate would ideally have some experience and be hard working and dedicated. This position could be filled by a volunteer who is unable to join us in Peru, but who could fill a vital place in the team from their home country |
